A 1926 Buescher True Tone: From False Tone to True Tone at Specialsax.nl
Sometimes an instrument arrives that immediately reminds us of where it all began for Specialsax. Last week, Daniel brought us a beautiful Buescher True Tone alto from 1926. A magnificent piece of saxophone history—but unfortunately, one that didn't play as it should.
Daniel had recently bought the instrument used. At first glance, it looked neatly reconditioned, but as soon as we started testing it, we realized something wasn't right . And that's precisely when our love for vintage Bueschers rekindled.
When a True Tone Becomes a “False Tone”
We know this specific model inside and out. In our early years, Buescher saxophones were the type we worked with most often—we know their charm, but also their pitfalls.
Daniel's alto had suffered minor but significant errors at several crucial points during the previous revision. These errors simply prevented the instrument from expressing its true tone. A true tone had, in fact, become a false tone .
Three hours of pure attention
We spent about three hours correcting the action, repairing minor leaks, readjusting critical joints, and restoring the original playing characteristics that the True Tones are so famous for.
Once everything was back in place and perfectly balanced, what you hope for with such an instrument happened:
the saxophone came to life.
The difference was immediate — warm, free, resonant, and exactly that classic Buescher vibe we know so well.
A piece of history that can last for years to come
It's always special to breathe new life into an instrument nearly a century old. That's why we do what we do: vintage saxophones deserve to sound the way they were meant to. And at Specialsax, we do it with love, expertise, and that little bit of extra attention.
Have fun with your reborn True Tone, Daniel.
And for anyone with a vintage sax that just doesn't play quite right: you're welcome at Specialsax.nl .
