What is saxophone maintenance?
Maintenance is intended to keep a well-functioning saxophone in optimal condition. During maintenance, small problems are resolved before they cause greater damage.
A service usually consists of:

- Lubricating moving parts
- Checking springs, screws, and corks
- Minor corrections to response and intonation

What is a saxophone overhaul?
An overhaul is an extensive technical restoration where the instrument is largely or completely disassembled and rebuilt.
During an overhaul, worn parts are replaced, and the instrument is technically fully restored.
An overhaul often consists of:
- Replacing all pads
- New corks and felts
- Complete mechanical adjustment
- Cleaning body and mechanism
- Restoring wear and leaks
- Checking tone holes and soldering
An overhaul is especially necessary for older instruments, heavily used saxophones, or instruments with overdue maintenance.

When do you choose maintenance?

- Pads are largely still in good condition

When is an overhaul necessary?

Especially vintage saxophones regularly need an extensive overhaul to become optimally playable again.
What is more cost-effective: maintenance or overhaul?
Regular maintenance often prevents larger overhauls and expensive repairs. By addressing small problems in time, pads, mechanism, and adjustment remain in good condition longer.
When wear is too advanced, an overhaul can ultimately be more cost-effective and durable than constantly performing small repairs.
